Hardware Authentication

I am debating whether or not to buy Vista for the simple reason that I have a laptop I currently use, but will build a new desktop in another year. Ideally I would like to put Vista on the laptop and when the time comes put XP back on the laptop and use Vista on my new box. I know MS is saying that you cannot do this, but I wanted to know if this is like XP in that it wil not be strictly enforced. Does anyone have any experiences with this?

MS have said lately that it will NOT be strictly enforced, contrary to their earlier stance, but as it is only released next week, we'll have to wait and see.
