Panny XR-50 receiver auto-detects digital or analog

My TV set outputs both digital and analog audio signals for programs with
digital audio. For programs with analog audio only, obviously it outputs
only analog.

I have been looking for an audio receiver that would default to the digital
signal if both were present but would go to the analog signal if there was
no digital signal. I returned a new Sony receiver that could go from
digital to analog but, in the presence of both, would stick with analog.

Apparently, I've found a receiver that does what I want -- a Panasonic XR-50
6.1 Dolby / DTS receiver. I seem to be able to browse through analog and
digital TV stations without changing the input on the receiver. I have both
analog and digital from the TV routed into the receiver's "TV" input and it
picks up digital if present, otherwise, the analog. And sounds great, to
boot.

The only glitch I've found so far was that it got stuck on digital-only
after coming back from playing a DVD in DTS digital. Not sure why it did
that or even what buttons I pushed to get it back, but I did get it back.
More investigation will probably solve this question.
