Did you disable the onboard networking in the BIOS?

It may be broken in such a way that the BIOS doesn't realize you're not using it.

Whenever one replaces onboard stuff with add-on cards, the onboards HAVE TO BE DISABLED.

Then go through the usual techie response for this - it's the first thing we all do: (this is based on your confidence that the card is known good.)

You must have the latest drivers for that card - the stuff on the cd may be five years old. Go to the web site and get them.

Go to Device Manager and Remove the network adapter - shut down.

Open the box - remove the card - reinsert the card in a different slot.

Restart. The O/S will pick up the card and reinstall it. If the drivers from the site are newer - go back to Device Manager and upgrade the driver manually.
