I just tried to install XP on my new computer and I get to this blue screen that is the normal XP format and it says that the setup will be complete in 39 minutes. Then after a little while an error message pops up that says "D:\I386\asms Data error: Cyclic Redundancy Check)" Any idea what I can do?

That's typically a file transfer error almost always caused by bad memory. I don't care if you just bought it; could still be bad.

Get Memtest - burn their bootable cd, and run it for four hours to see if it pops any errors. If you get errors, and you have two sticks, remove one to isolate the culprit.

If the ram is error free, the install cd is bad.
