Hi,

I pre ordered windows vista ultimate oem from overcockers. they despatched it early to my delight, got it the other day, installed it over xp (upgrade not full install). my first problem i encountered was.......a BSOD!!! well done microsoft, windows vista is no more stable than windows 95 in installation....havent we come along way? Anyway i got around this by removin all ati software drivers from my pc, graphics cards are 1650xt by the way. vista then proceded to install fine.

However once windows vista was installed, it refused to go any faster than as if you had installed it on a 100mhz pentium with 12mb ram or something, i left it on all overnight, and it had still frozen in the morning. Many of you might say this is after the installation issues. This is not the case, restarted pc several times, and it just hangs the hard disc, and when you mash the keyboard, it will have a constant beep for a period of time, free itself, and then freeze again. opening such windows as "my computer" and "comtrol panel" would render the pc inoperable.

i reformatted my hdd, installed a fresh clean windows vista, and this studiously did the same. so i gave up and re imaged my pc with the xp image i backed it up with before i originaly installed vista....luckily....

this has brought me to the conclusion that windows vista doesnt FULLY support the disc controller on the motherboard. graphics wouldnt affect the loading time of the pc, so this eliminates this altogether (yes i have crossfire and have removed brisges, card etc 1 card, other card, vice versa slots etc etc, every combination tried) cpu and memory dont need drivers to work so that eliminates them. dvd drive, floppy drive won have any effect whatso ever. and only needed devices where plugged into pc. ie mouse keyboard and monitor. this brings me to the conclusion that it must be either:

A) the southbridge is not fully supported on this chipset yet, asus M2R32-MVP AM2
B) specificaly the hard disc controler is not fully supported in vista yet.

Also, it is not a hard disc failure, or any other component failure, becuase i am writing this on the same pc on xp and it is working smoothly. Just a warning that if you buy vista and have that board, it wont work.

Care for any comments anyone?

Cheers
Will
