The e4300 is look very tempting at the moment after it dropped from about 100 quid a month ago to about £65 (not inc VAT) now.

The e6600 looks good too at £130, buts thats still about double the price of the e4300.

If I overclocked an e4300 to the speed of the e6600 or a bit higher, would it perform just as well as the e6600 (mostly gaming wise).

If I get an E6600 I probably wouldnt be looking at overclocking, as if I mess up it will be void of warrenty and thats 130 quid down the drain instead of a potential £65 with the e4300.

Also how would overclocking an e4300 affects its lifespan in general? I would looking at overclocking to 2.4 to 2.8ghz, not to the 3.2ghz most people do.

I've never tried overclocking yet, so I dont know first hand of the issues surrounding it, only what I've read on t'internet.

If you can afford the e6600 then I say get it. It's a very powerful chip and overclocks well. I know that you said you would most likely not overclock, but I think that you should reconsider. Using the stock cooler you can reach 3.2 easily. If you know the ins and outs to overclocking, go for it.

Well, Ive never even tried overclocking yet so I'm not exactly an expert.

If I can save £60 or so for the CPU and get the same performance, that would be my prefered choice. Also the financial risk would be less for the e4300.

I'm sure whatever I buy will be heart pounding compared to this 2.2ghz celeron i'm on now.

If you are in the market to save some money you can't go wrong with an E4300. Overclocking can be done by anyone really and we can help you do it and make sure that you don't fry your system. As long as you take some care your overclock will last longer than you keep your computer.

I have had an E4300 and E6600 but I haven't been able to push the E6600 due to a poor motherboard with excessive vdroop, so I sent the board back.

Honestly the E4300 will hit the E6600 speed without any effort, even with crappy budget DDR2 533 ram and I haven't met an E4300 that won't do 2.8GHz. 8)
