After reading all the revews on the Thermalright ultra 120, I really wanted to get one, but those darn things are out of stock everywhere. After looking for several days, I made an impulse buy on a Thermalright HR-01 and a high-output 120mm fan (ixtrema 120mm, 70cfm 14dba). Anyone have any ideas how an HR-01 would perform compared to the other big guys? Any thoughts or firsthand accounts would be greatly appreciated!

e6600 @ 3.25 stock voltage
Asus P5N-E SLI
x1900xtx w/accelero cooler
2gb patriot ddr2 800
ocz 700w psu
lotsa fans, plenty of airflow

More about : ultra 120 9700 tuniq tower

Should have gotten the Tuniq Tower 120 if you couldn't have gotten the Thermalright Ultra 120. The HR-01 isn't in the same class.

The thermalright 120 Extreme ships tomorrow.

As for the HR-01, I don't know, it was designed to passively cool low TDP chips. I haven't seen a review of it actively cooling though.

IMO, if you can, return the HR01 and order a 120 Extreme, which again is shipping tomorrow from all places. I have one on order with frozencpu.com

Also high output? Try 125 CFM @ 44dba

hehe.

ha, yeah i've got one of those fans as my rear exhaust (loud as balls at full speed though), i'm thinkin bout putting a fan in front where my drive bays are, blowing air directly through to the heatsink and out the back. I've got some extra fans just lying around, what's a guy to do? Anyway, I don't really have temp issues even with the stock intel heatsink/fan (45-50C @ full load), so this has got to be an improvement on that, right?

Just give it a day or so. I wanted the Ultra-120 and had to wait a whole day and then they were back in stock. It's something worth waiting for. They are awesome coolers. I am a new fan of Thermalright. Oh and DITCH the AC Accelero for your XTX. They suck. I had/have one that I took off and replaced it with a Thermalright HR-03 and it dropped my temps during heavy gaming a SOLID 20C. I mean it was cooking at 82C in BF2142 and now hits 62C. Awesome cooler. Just a thought though for you.

yeah i thought about that cooler for the vid card, but my temps stay between 60-70 and i'm thinking about moving up to an 8800 soon anyway. Those 1900xtx's run so darn hot it's scary. Thanks for the input

Yeah they use them for examples because they are litereally the hottest running card.. like ever. haha. But yeah mine is sitting at.... 43C right now at idle which is alot cooler than my buddies 8800gtx by far... He is actually getting the HR03 Plus cooler which is the 6 heatpipe cooler for the 8800gtx from thermalright. He should see similar resultes on his 8800. Just a nugget of info to keep.

Well, i got the HR-01, slapped a silenx ixtreme fan on it, put it in, and everything seems dandy. I idle at 38 and don't go above 45 at full load. Looks great, she's a beast! i guess we'll see how things go when it gets hotter and i refuse to turn on the A/C cause of the power bill. ha! p.s., still can't find the darn ultra120. wtf my friends, wtf?

The HR-01 with fan duct will blow the ultra-120 out of the water!
