Wireless and wired?

Hi,
I set up a wireless network for a friend which consists of a desktop and a laptop. As the signal drops occasionally, he asked me to install a wired card on each with a crossover cable so he can carry on working when this happens. The problem is when I done this I was getting all kinds of network errors (you dont have permission to access.. no shared internet connection... etc)Am I trying to do something silly or is this feasable.

Mike,
We need a little more info on the network setup. Are you using a hub or switch anywhere? Is there a router or is he sharing an internet connection? Just discribe in detail what you have set up now on each computer (what OS is each using as well)

Hi Mucox,
There is no switch or hub, just peer to peer network using either the wireless or a crossover cable.
Both pc's are XP Pro, and the desktop is set for internet connection sharing. The XP firewall is on on the internet connection but nowhere else (and not on the laptop)
Any help appreciated.
