No audio device is installed windows 7

Last response: in Windows 7

I recently installed a new graphics card and upon turning my computer on (Win7 x64), the sound doesn't work. The sound icon has a red 'x' over it and it says "no audio device is installed". In 'Device Manager', the drivers are installed and without incident. Anyone have any ideas?

Check the Windows Audio Service. If this service is stopped, your sound card will not function. Start the service and make sure the service's startup type is set to automatic. Once you start the service, check the Sounds applet in control panel and see if you can play sounds. If the Windows Audio service does not start or it is already running, try uninstalling your sound card and restarting your machine. Your sound card should reinstall automatically. If it does not, download the latest drivers from the manufacturer and install the sound card manually.

Thanks, I had tried all that. I found the solution in a Windows KB. My BIOS had randomly decided to turn off sound. I enter BIOS, changed the setting for sound to 'on' and viola! Hope that might help anyone in the future.
