Dual boot XP & Vista? 1x IDE HDD & 1x SATA HDD?

I currently have windows Xp home installed on a 120gb IDE HDD. I have a second 250Gb SATA drive which at the moment only has games and music on it. I want to install vista on that second drive and be able to dual boot between the two OS as some programs i have wont run in vista.
Please help? whats the best plan of attack?

I am booting to separate hard drives with XP and Vista right now using BIOS, which is sort of clutzy boot management, though all I really have to do is hit F8 really quickly and then choose my boot drive.
Since XP is my primary OS, can Vista be added to the XP bootloader, or is it absolutely necessary to use Vista's to get Vista to boot?
I think I've heard the latter, but if I could select from the OS pop-up menu that appears instead of having to use BIOS to switch hard drives...
I know there are boot managers, I have played with them, specifically Acronis boot management, and I don't like how intrusive it is and how difficult it is to get off hard drives...
