I need facts to support that its not ideal to daisy chain 7 Linksys SD216
compared to star topology.
Current diagram is:
Cisco 1750 router --> Cisco 2950 12port switch --> Colubris CN3000(authentication) --> Cisco 2950 24port --> Linksys SD216 16port( more than 100mtrs from Cisco) --> Linksys SD216 16port (6pcs in daisy chain)
Noticed network slowdown when plenty of people are hooked up in Linksys. I just want to support my findings with real facts if possible. I need your help guys... Thank you
Someone actually things its not a bad idea to daisy chain all those switches?!
Each switch is going to store the MAC address of everything connected to it. When it doesn't find its the connection, it'll send to the next switch, process starts over.
So, if you're going from switch 1 to switch 7, that's 7 hops it has to make and bogging down each switch a little to determine if its on this switch or should it pass it on.
That's where your slow down is.. extra traffic in searching each switch will cause a slow down along with a lot of other computers on the network doing the same thing.
If the cross traffic to other switches was minor, it most likely wouldn't be as big of an issue.
