Vista Ultimate x64 on my Main rig:
Specs:
Intel X6800 @3.996GHz
OCZ Platinum Series 4GB (4 X 1GB) DDR2 800 @ 5-5-5-15
XFX GeForce 7950GX2 - For testing out DX10 I borrowed a 8800GTX
22 in CRT
To tell you the truth, I never thought it would tax my rig as much as it did. TM CPU and RAM usage read higher than I've ever seen, even in the RC's and the RTM. And keep in mind this is a relatively clean machine.
Vista Ultimate on my Laptop:
Specs:
Intel T7600 @ 2.33GHz
Standard 2GB (2x1GB) DDR @ 4-4-4-12
Go GeForce 7800
17in TFT 1440 Display
If you are going to run Vista on your laptop, be sure that our system can handle that weight. Bare minimums work but will frustrate even the most long suffering user.

In testing performance with a production version of Vista we saw high CPU rates, but a negligible actual performance hit if any. It was as if the CPU was reacting to the number of process threads (incredibly large) but it didn't overwhelm the CPU power.
Did you find anything similar with DX10? I would imagine that the extra eye candy may really impact the GPU performance.
There was no actual performance hit but task manager showed that CPU usage had went up an additional 10%. I'll test the effects of DX10 tomorrow though.
@kukito: I've already started to modify the theme. I couldn't stand the stock start button.
Ninja's start button is similar to the one I use for XP but mine doesn't have the text. I got it at CrystalXP.net. The Vista orb looks a lot better than the ugly XP default start button but I still prefer my previous one.
