Installed new CPU....monitor not working

Hey guys,

I just installed a new Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 on my computer. Everything starts spinning as usual but the monitor gives me the "no signal" message. Everything is in the right place. The thing is that there used to be a Intel P4 3.8ghz CPU in there with it running at 800mhz FSB.

The new CPU runs at 1066mhz. Could this be the problem. Should I have changed the settings before installation, or is it something else?

Thanks

There is no image, not even BIOS post, right?

What kind of motherboard is it? Is it compatible with the Core 2 Duos?

I know that my old ASUS board would not post with a Core 2 CPU, even though it was 775. So, maybe you're trying to run the Core 2 on a non-Core 2 board.

I am not sure if that motherboard can run a Core 2 Duo CPU.
I looked at ASUS' website, and it didn't list Core 2 compatiblity.
ASUS' site

So, I think that's why you're not posting. It is a 775 socket, but you'll need a new board to run the CPU. Sorry to tell you that...unless there is some sort of mod for the board, or something.

Dammit.....

Is there any way I could make these compatible?? BIOS update or something?

Otherwise, what are some good motherboards that would be compatible with Core 2 Duos and also be SLI, preferably around or under $120 USD

Hmm, ok. Do you think that the Intel Pentium D 945 3.4ghz would be compatible with my mobo? Is the P5ND2-SLI compatible with all Pentium Ds, im not sure so some confirmation would be very helpful.

Also, is there a big performance difference between the Pentium D 945 and the Core 2 Duo E6600. What do the Core 2s have that the Pentium Ds don't?

If the performance gap isn't too big, it would be much easier and cheaper for me to go for the Pentium D 945.

Thanks.

Yes, but it doesn't say what models. It doesn't really matter because I found out that my mobo can't use Pentium D 945s anyway so I'll probably just upgrade my mobo.

What are some good, bang for your buck mobos that are:

-LGA 775
-553/800/1066mhz FSB
-Up to Core 2 Duo support
-PCI-Ex16 (doesn't need to be SLI)
-677 or 800mhz ram
-support 5.1 surround sound

Thanks

i have the same mobo as yours, had to RMA it once but it runs ok sort of.
for a core 2 duo you can try a Gigabyte GA-965p-S3 or DS3 , as it has everything you want , very stable and has a big OC potential. And it's pretty cheap
