Basically my main question is will a low end video card bottleneck a cpu to overclock? Since im just planning to buy a geforce 7100 for now and I want to overclock to at least 3.4Ghz, and just wait till ati release their mid range dx10 cards.

My spects are: E6600
2 gig ddr 800
650 wats psu
tuniq tower
gigabyte ds3 rev.1

In video games yes, the 7100 will be a bottleneck. Is the 8600 not appealing to you?

Get the 8600 which is a little bit more $ but it is DX10 and better preformence.

i'd say get the 8800 gts 320mb instead of the 8600, the price difference isn't that high, but the performance difference appears to be from what benchmarks i've seen.

hmmm well i guess I'll just head over the 8600 gt and just try to overclock it to a gts's speed. I missed out on the 7100 for $25 shipping included, i just hope for $170-160 price for this cards that the upcoming dx10 games actually works on good settings

Unless you have a bad chip the E6600 will reach 3.4GHZ with ease although you will probably need to up the voltages.

I have mine stable at 3.0GHZ with no voltage increase and its performance is amazing compared to the 2.4GHZ stock speed. Vista has literally come alive compared to stock speed which was mediocre. At 3.0ghz I bench above a 2.9ghz Xeon in SI Sandra.

I lose stability around 3.1GHZ with stock voltage. I haven't tested to see if its memory or cpu voltage thats the problem though as I don't intend to up the voltage.
