I own the following equipment:

P3 1 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Realtek 8139 NIC, XP Pro
Toshiba 4090 XDVD notebook, Celeron 400, 192 MB RAM, 3Com FE574B NIC, WIN 98 (not SE)
SMC 7004 VBR router
Cable modem
C drives in both computers are shared

Both computers acces the internet through the router without any problem. I would like both computers to communicate with one another. So far I have been unable to do this.

How do I need to setup my computers to do this? Is there any web site I can visit to learn how to do this. I have setup networks like this on my previous computers. I am not a complete newbie but I am far from an expert.

Hmmmm....does the router have some kind of hub or switch built in?

Can the two PC's ping each other?
