Best match for DDR2-800?

Hi,

Price drops are here, so time to get busy! I don't want to do an extreme OC, but I just want to run my DDR2-800 at the rated speed, 400MHz. So I'm looking at these 2 options:

1) E6600, drop mult from 9 to 7. 7*400 = 2.8GHz vs. the stock 2.4. Should be effortless.

2) E6420, drop mult from 8 to 7. 7*400 = 2.8GHz vs. the stock 2.13. I ASSUME this will work with stock cooling & voltage. But you know what they say about assuming.

Option 2 is a little cheaper, so is that the way to go? Or is there a better option, given my objective?

Get the 6420. Why would you want the more expensive chip when they will turn out 100% identical?

If you wanted to save even more money get an E6300/E6320 and up the FSB to 400. Although, this may be more difficult to achieve using the E63x0 vs. E6600 or E64x0.

But ya, lamboman is entirely correct. Doesn't make sense to spend more money to get the same speed chip (after dropping multiplier)
