Actually i normally call it Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA).

Ok in all honesty, i say it "sahta" though phonentically it should be SA-TA with the long A.

I sent an email off to Media Relations of SATA-IO -->

Dear Sir:

I have a question regarding the correct pronounciation of SATA. As a member of Tom's Hardware Guide Forumz, we are debating this very question. Some of us pronouce it as "sahta", some "sayta", and others "serial ATA". Is there a correct way to pronounce it and, if so, does the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) have a position on this matter?

Sincerely,

Babaghan

Well, is it Commander Dayta, or Commander Dahta? Sorry, couldn't resist.

Correct way, to steal badge's example, is Sata, as in satellite. Any other way is just plain weird. I mean, learn to speak correctly, please.
Just teasing.
April 25, 2007 6:56:44 PM

Alien: "Dayta, Dahta, what's the difference?"
Data: "One is my name, the other is not."
April 25, 2007 7:08:51 PM

"the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO)"
That'll probably be their answer - serial ATA.
Cereal ATA has a prize in the box, though, so that's what I like to get.

:? Say-ta?? Sounds so weird.

I say SAT-A

Like he SAT down.
April 25, 2007 9:37:57 PM

Found it:
SATA [ˈseɪ.tə] or IPA: [ˈsæ.tə]
April 25, 2007 10:09:15 PM

say-ta n

I can't resist this. The correct quotation would be:

Dr. Katherine Pulaski: "Dayta, Dahta, what's the difference?"
Data: "One is my name, the other is not."
