I have no clue of which ones of those to get...
The setup i have will include a DS3, and 800mhz CAS5 G Skill ram.

But, im not sure if i should:

1.Get the e6600, use the stock cooler, and POSSIBLY scrape off the TIM, and put on some arctic silver 5 for cooler operation. I also am guessing that since i wont up the fsb even close to 333mhz, i wont need 800mhz ram. So i guess i could get the $89 2 gig 667mhz CAS 5 Super Talent ram? Bad or good idea?

2.Get the e6420, and possibly keep it at stock, or possibly buy the artic cooling freezer 7 pro, then oc it a bit (close to 3 ghz)

3. Or finally, get the E4400, get a thermaltake big typhoon, w/ arctic silver 5, and oc that proc to about 3 ghz - 3.33ghz

Btw, i am a teenager, i have little money to spare, i am a noob who has never even been in a BIOS, and couldn't deal with losing ~$200 on a oc'ing job gone bad.

So, that's basically my predicament. Anybody have a good idea?

#1 is your best bet, but what's keeping you from buying a 3rd party cooler? 667 RAM rocks and usually can be clocked a 800 easily. Even a $10 cooler beats intel stock. GL

i also found the e6600 at fry's for $199, but idk if its retail or OEM.

So you think that is the best choice?

I could also get a e6600 at newegg's at $235 with supreme commander which is valued at $40.

Everybody else think thats the best idea?

If supreme commander is your kind of game, go for it! I got my E6600 OEM at Frys real cheap so that would be fine too. Boy does it rock for gaming,

I bought everything from Newegg and everything works great and shipping was VERY fast. Of course, I prefer the E6600. Get a good heatsink for only a couple bucks (~$50) and OC that baby to 3.4GHz or 3.6GHz.

Remember to take your time building your computer and if you're not sure about something, just ask on the forums. I'm sure someone will give you a lecture on it.

800MHz RAM and Artic Silver 5 is what I use. I like Newegg because I got exactly what I wanted right away. Good luck.

I think it is a great deal, for anyone who doesn't have that game, and likes strategy games. I just orded a E6600 from newegg today in fact. It is a great chip for the price.
The E4400 is better suited to those who are experienced overclockers, willing to buy additional cooling solutions, and\or not afraid to overclock.

If you do get an E6600, I recommend you look into overclocking it, just don't push it too far if you are worried about breaking it.

(EDIT-- I should also note, that the stock heatsink and fan is not as bad as some people claim. Yeah, after markert coolers are best, but you should still get a hefty "safe" OC from the stock HSF)
