2 gig of Gskill ram
Sata harddrive.
8800gts 320 mb.

Ok so anyway im playing stalker its running good on high settings. As soon as i walk outside. I drop down to about .5 fps. Sometimes when i start Company of heros it runs this terrible. but sometimes it runs perfect at full settings. Whats wrong here. Is it stupid vista 64 bit im running?

If you updated to the latest driver from Nvidia a couple of days ago try going back to the previous release. The latest driver for Vista 32 is junk.

I had to uninstall the latest beta Vista 32 driver and go back to the prior. I tried to use the latest several times with reinstalls, etc., but I kept getting blank screens and instability among applications. I'm using the previous Vista 32 driver and all is well. I don't know, maybe you should try a different driver?

If you have Vista 64, then you should use the Vista 64 driver. If you're using the 32-bit driver version and it let you install the driver, that's probably the source of your problem. Remove the driver completely, then go get the latest Vista 64 driver.

If that doesn't work, check your temperatures for CPU, GPU, and chipset. Try backing your overclock down to lower settings, maybe even -gasp- stock speeds. It could be a stability issue.

Hmm.. have you checked you temps???? maybe they are too high and they are causing the hardware to clock down to stay cooler...

another question i have. In vista 64 with my GTS everytime i open and close a certain window the whole screen looks blocky yellow and flashs superquick. I thought it was a vista/driver problem but i updated driver to the 2nd newest 1 and it did nothing. Then i thought it was my slow monitor with crappy refresh rate and i got 1 with 5 ms refresh and it still does it. Any1 else have this?

What power supply do you have?

You are dealing with a driver configuration problem.Un-install your video drivers, restart in safe mode, and then re-install them.Hopefully that will fix your problem.Goodluck.

Well what resolution are you running at? And are you running with all the sliders to max? If so, Stalker uses over 600mb of Vram at those settings, which your card obviously doesn't have. I got the same thing in dark messiah at max settings my 8800gts 320mb just didnt have enough memory, so now i just got my 8800gts 640, and i have no problems.

This might sound like a basic question, but is the 6pin PCI express power connector attached firmly to your card? I ask this because the game is running fine inside but then when you go outside the card needs to draw and calculate longer distances. The card can only pull about 75watts max from the PCI Express slot which might be enough to get the game going till it needs more power for the outside areas. If the cable is securely attached it could be your power supply failing or lack of power on the 12 volt rail. What type of power supply do you have? How much wattage and how many amps are on the 12 volt rail?

I had the exact same problem with stalker.. I lowered all settings.. but same problem.. however when I pushed the lighting distance slider to max, suddenly the game ran really smooth! Then I was able to push everything else to max and game still ran well.. including full dynamic lighting.

Stalker is a b*tch of a game, kinda wish i'd never got it. It's dodgy to run and IMO the gameplay is crap.

Patch 1.1 caused more problems than fixes. When i patched Stalker it always crashed after 5mins(when i got to the exact same bridge everytime) but unpatched it ran stable(ish).

i dont remember the brand but i think its a 500W power supply. Could that really be the problem. I run FEAR COH and a bunch of other games 100% settings with full AA AF settings and it barley phases it. Stalker on the other hand. Doesnt matter what setting i run it on. Its fritzy jumpy. With No AA OR AF, and it crashs every five seconds. I tried changing patchs on the game to the new 1.01 and it still sux.

I also read somewhere that Stalker optimises itself after around 3-4 plays, i.e. keep settings the same -> load game -> play -> quit to windows -> load game again.....

Some people have reported that this solves some problems... making sure settings remain constant throughout..

not sure if this works, but worth a shot.

if you drop down to low fps and then it goes back up its because the game is preloading itself into ram. I have the same problem and im running on an x2 4800+ @2.8 with 2gb corsair xms and 7900gto 512mb

the game was super buggy at release, dload and install all the patches, and use this tweak guide to help your performance:

Well; there are some bad boys out there that disguise themselves as svc processes. Mostly they contain some spelling errors in the process name. However there are some that look real. I suggest you run the following (trusted and widely recommended) two programs: (adaware and spybot)

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php

http://www.spybot.info/

(Forgive me if I ask; but you are using up to date virus protection and a decent firewall I suppose...)
