For those of you who already have vista, you could post your performance index.
And don’t forget to add your system configuration.
I'm just curious to see what hardware gets what from this test, it probably has faults, but to rate such a heterogeneous variety of hardware is, by definition, difficult.
Go ahead! I will post my results when I build my new computer next Friday (if this thread goes anywhere, of course).
Base Score: 3.4
Processor: 4.8
Core2Duo E4300 @ Stock
Memory: 4.5
1,024 megabytes (512*512 configuration) DDR2 533 Mhz overclocked to 667 Mhz with cas latency of 4
Graphics: 3.5
Gaming Graphics: 3.4
ATI Radeon x1300
Primary Hard Disk: 5.4
320 gigabytes SATAII
The memory overclock seemed to hurt my 3DMark2001 score a bit, but helped the Windows Experience Index by .5 points.
Score really doesn't mean much to me, but what the heck, I'll participate.
Base Score - 5.5
Processor - Intel 6700 Duo (2.66ghz) - Not overclocked
score 5.5
Memory - 4gb corsair dominator series - twin2x2048-6400c4d
score 5.7
Graphics - Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB
score 5.9 & gaming graphics score 5.9
Hard Drives - 2x 150gig SATA Raptor & 1 70gig Raptor
score 5.9
Motherboard - EVGA 680i
Overclocked to 3.5ghz base score was still 5.5, processor score did not go up for some reason, but all other scores were 5.9.
Earlier tests showed the cpu at 5.8 while OC'd. Go figure.
FYI -
3dmark score was 10280 when running XP Pro
Now 3dmark score is 9816 running Vista =/
Rig in my sig gets 5.1 overall,
Regards
Edit:
@ Grizzy - You can't just say '3DMark', there are many versions!
I'm guessing you mean 3DMark '06...?
That's a great score
L8R
AMD64 4000+ oced to 2.7GHZ
bfg tech nforce4 ultra
2x1 OCZ PC 3200 Platinum Series RAM

graphics for gaming = 3.5 = ati x1300 PCI
hard drive = 5.7 = seagate 250GB EIDE 7200/16MB
Oops my bad. Yeah I meant to say 3dmark 06 =P
BTW, re-ran the 3dmark test after closing the vista sidebar, and a few other apps, new score is 9,950.
Still can't get over how much more resources vista consumes at idle. <-- compared to XP pro
My results:
Processor: 5.2
Memory: 5.9
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 4.9
Primary Hard Disk: 5.7
This is an ATI x850xt, Opteron 170@2.7ghz, 2gb Ram, Seagate Enterprise 7200.10 320gb SATA2 drive.
Base score, 4.2
Processor 4.2.
RAM 4.7.
Graphics, 5.0.
Primary hard disk 5.7.
Processor, amd 3700
RAM OCZ Platinum r2 cl2.
GPU's, asus en6800 GT
HDD, seagate 320, 7200.10.
Amazing.
I'm thinking this is silly, but I can't resist.
AMD 939-4800+ OC'd to 2.66 (225x12) (Scores a 5.0 at base)
Corsair PC3500 XMS 2x1GB Memory
HIS X1900XTX
300GB Maxtor SATA drive
Abit K8N Ultra
I have got 5 with my D830.
One of my patriot ram sticks died on jan 31, 2007 after i installed vista, long post beeps. Now I am limping with only one stick of ram and no overclock. Honestly I can still multitask burning dvd's, chatting, watching video movies still. Need better nvidia drivers though because my battlefield 2142 plays like a slideshow or those picture a day videos.
start/settings/controlpanel/performance information and tools/update my score
With the sys in my sig.
Vista runs nice
Only thing is that my microphone on my soundblaster Live!5.1 doenst work in vista
I dont have vista. Does that mean I dont have vpenis?
How does this rating system work, is it out of a certain number or does it just keep going up?
is 5.9 the highest you can get at the moment ?
Quote : is 5.9 the highest you can get at the moment ?
The theoretical max that I've heard is currently in place is 6.0... why they decided to cap it, I'm not quite sure. However, I have never seen higher than 5.9.
Quote : How does this rating system work, is it out of a certain number or does it just keep going up?
This has a pretty thorough explanation of the scoring system.
Quote : I dont have vista. Does that mean I dont have vpenis?
It means you don´t have a ruler, lol
PS: This is a somewhat silly ranking because you can have very good memory or hard drive scores (not to mention game graphics) and still get performance boosts by upgrading these components, but it's not bad at identifying bottlenecks. (And It was not made for advanced hardware connoisseurs)
Quote : Is there any way that I can do the performance index without using vista? I have no intention on using it until I absolutely have to as it stands EULA and compatibility wise but it would be kinda interesting to know how mine stacks up.
Of course, that's the idea. To see how good your computer could run Vista. The app is on microsoft.com
If you have an nVidia there is a new driver that fixes a lot of gaming issues. It's in Bet but it's stable. 100.59.
You can also try 97.46 as I used it to play D3.
I got a 4.0:
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3200+ ................. 4.0
Memory: 1Gb of DDR 333 ............................ 4.2
Graphics: Radeon x1300 pro (agp)................ 4.6
Gaming Graphics: Radeon x1300 pro (agp).... 4.1
Primary Hard Disk: Segate 120gb 7200RPM... 5.2
I'm running the Home Basic Version of vista.... and I'm really surprised how high my scores are considering that my video card is really not that good and that my CPU is almost 4 years old!
5.8 Base score, which is the CPU score
everything else is 5.9.
Graphic card hasnt been OCed under Vista. Pc specs is in my sig.
Running on Vista Business
We have a Vista section man.
Hi Ninja!, how are ya doin?
Zaroch my friend, its good to see you around. Our Vista section is seeing alot of FUD. I expect you to inpart some truth into that area.
My two almost identical systems, athlon 64 3700, 2GB RAM, x1800XT 512MB, hard drives vary from dual raptors and dual 250 samsungs in one to a couple 320's and 160's in the other, all RAID0's:
Base 4.1 (completely meaningless as it takes the lowest score of the bunch)
Processor 4.1
Memory 5.9
Graphics 5.9
Gaming 5.9
Disk 5.7
I'll check my 32bit machine and post later, it's probably only a 3
Quote : Base 4.1 (completely meaningless as it takes the lowest score of the bunch)
I wouldn't say completely meaningless, since your CPU is a bottleneck to everything else. That means something. Does it mean you'll have less of a Vista experince that someone with a 5.9 ? Probably not.
I do wonder if it will become part of a game or applications recommended index. Crysis recommends a 5.0 or higher, or to run VideoEdit 9.0 we recommended a Vista Perf index of 4.4 or higher.
But many of us will learn when working on someone's PC, if they say I get a 2.3 PI, Our first words will be 'Have you considered upgrading your system ?"
Meaningless because the cpu I have has no problems with anything today, just because it's not dual core doesn't mean it's slow. This rating will become far more important as dual core aware apps hit the market. Then I'll finally break down and get myself a c2d
I seriously doubt a Core 2 Duo at 3.6ghz is a bottleneck to my harddrive or that my ram is 'faster' then my CPU!
Quote : I seriously doubt a Core 2 Duo at 3.6ghz is a bottleneck to my harddrive or that my ram is 'faster' then my CPU
I don't understand what your point is ? I never said you had a bottleneck.
I was responding to Michaelahess who had a 4.1 on his CPU and high 5s on everything else and said the number was completely meaningless, which I still disagree with him on. It still means his CPU is the weakiest link.
Means, if there was something out there that needed a 5.0 or higher CPU, he might be suffering. It may not mean alot right now, since we don't have any real correlation between the performance index and the rest of the world.
5.7 Overall
5.7 CPU (6300 OC'd to 3.0 ghz)
5.7 RAM (2 gigs OCZ Platinum DDR-800 OC'd)
5.9 Graphics (8800GTS, stock)
5.9 Gaming (same)
5.7 Hard disk (Seagate Barracuda 7200.10)
To hit >5.7 on CPU, you gotta have a stinkin fast chip.
Basically, to hit >5.7 on everything you gotta have a high end rig all around. Just FYI.
On a PC at work, an IBM/Lenovo ThinkCentre mod. 8136, running Windows Vista Business N, it didn't even run the test, because it couldn't detect a multimedia subsystem.
Neverthless, there is an on-board sound card, speakers, etc, etc, etc. The multimedia subsystem is fully functional, but Vista seems to disagree/ignore/whatever.
Shame on Vista.
Maybe your IBM is too cool for school?

Your graphics card is kinda weak, especially for gaming. Your overall Vista Experience score is determined by the weakest component in your system. In this case, your graphics has the lowest score, so your overall score is the same as the graphics score. You can pay $50-$70 and get a much better graphics card, and then your Vista score would rise.
Toms, for the love of all that is good and holy fix your editing options, i do not have permision to edit my own posts in the normal editing mode, i can only quick edit, and i cant delet my own friken post!
E8400 @ 3.6ghz for Experience Index and 4Ghz with many memory and graphics tweaks for the 3Dmark06 score.
I’ll push for 5.9 Experience Index one day
5.9 for all categories. Not sure if it is good, or bad, or irrelevant.
CPU : Q6600 @ 3.6ghz
Ram : 4Gb Crucial Balistxs 1066Mhz
Video card: 8800GT
HDD : 150Gb Raptor X
CPU : Q6600 @ 2.4 : 5.9
Mem : 2X2 (4g) G. Skill 5-5-5-15 : 5.2 ? does that seem right? CPU-Z shows each @ 400mhz did I just buy slow ram or is that normal?
GPU : 8800gts :5.9
Gam Graph :5.9
HD :5.6
