Ok, I notice in my office the power will sometimes dim (like a brown out)... and I know this is probably damaging my gear. What is an affordable solution?

Will a power backup suffice??

Good idea (battery back-ups are "power conditioners) - but does that unit have enough power for your needs?

I have this one - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6842101125

And it's been flawless for over 3 years. Pricey, yes - but good insurance.

That will do the job, but it's a bit cheap in the respect it is a "standby" unit only - meaning it is direct connect to utility and switches over to battery when a power anomaly is detected.

If possible spend a bit more and upgrade to the "line-interactive" type that has active power filtering (automatic voltage regulation), like in the APC BE650R 650 VA 390W unit.

Also check your capacity using a combination of the PSU calculator and putting the result into the UPS power calculator.

cheers

Thanks... I'm only going to have a standard computer (500W PSU - OC'd e4300 (going Q6600), 8800GTS 320, 2 HDs, 1 DVD ) and really don't care about "how long" my computer can stay on.. 2-3 mins would suffice... I just want to protect from surges and dims... would this do?

Or do I need to match the watts with my PSU?

I don't want 8% of my build $$ funds to go to a backup, but I don't want to buy something under $50 that gives me a false sense of security.

Thanks!
