Hardware / Windows compatibility?

I recently built a new system. Everything seems to be fine with the exception of a few games that lock my PC and the fact that every time I put a blank cd/dvd into the burner, that also locks the system.

The games in question are Call of Duty2 and Battle for Middle Earth... I can run other games (Half Life2, Rainbow 6) just fine. I've ran memory, CPU, video benchmarking tests and all have passed, so I think the problem is a bad PSU? At least that's what I'm hoping.

As far as the blank media locking the PC, that has me a little more confused, as it reads other cd/dvds just fine.

Here are my specs:

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 3800+ Socket AM2
Mem: Corsair VS1GB667D2 1GB DDR2-667 PC2-5300 Value Select
Vid: Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB PCI-Express
Mobo: MSI K9A Platinum

One important note. The Mobo only had one PATA w/ support for 2 devices (I'm currently using 2x 160 GB HDDs). The DVD RW is running through a PCI to IDE card. I don't know if this is an issue, but it DOES register the device, and can read both cds and dvds.

Any help/suggesions are appreciated.

  1. Try putting the hd's on the card, and the dvd into the IDE channel.
