I heard there was a program that you can download or simply run, and it will tell you how long it took to download and based on your PC configuration, it will tell you how well your system is operating. I have a PC in my cellar that I had help building from scratch that is supposedly a "screamer", and it seems that it is running slower than a Dell that my wife has in our bedroom. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know what program you are talking about but most people use 3dMark 06 and then compare results with others.

List specs of both the Dell and the 'Screamer' and we'll see which one should be running faster.

Just get a decently solid cast or wrought iron piece like this:

Take a few swings at your PC with it and it should leave some impressive bench marks.

Actually, use 3dmark06 as suggested. It's free and won't cause massive physical damage to your computer.

search google for

Sisoft Sandra
Super pi
3d mark (go with 03 version!)
aquamark 3
fraps
there are millions out there but basically they run on your computer for a period of time and give you a score dependant on a number of factors.

3dmark also rates your cpu and is the most suggested(so most used) benchmarking tool on this forum. I suggested it so their would be plenty of people to compare results with.
