in follow up to my earlier question about upgrading a dell axim to the new
moblie 5 when it comes out...
what about hardware issues? will current axim hardware have any problems
with the new OS? will things run better with mobile 5?
basically, should i use discounts available now and get the axim now, or
wait until mobile 5 is released installed?

thanks again for everyone's help.

It will be hard to know for sure how Windows Mobile 5 will run until it can
be seen on an Axim running against new hardware with Windows Mobile 5.
Technically, it should run pretty well since there isn't really anything
major the Axim doesn't have, but you never know. Obvously one big thing is
persitant storage, so hardware that is more optimized toward this model may
work better. If you are really someone that wants the NEWEST products, you
probably want to wait. But if you are more of a general user that would
like to have the new platform, I think the Axim would be a good choice.

I wouldn't get too excited about upgrading - why not look at the features
and see if there is anything that you would benefit from.

I think it is interesting HP is releasing the 6500 series and apparently has
no plans to upgrade it to 2005 ?

I feel out of place responding since my name is not David (as everyone else
in this thread), but back to the Orig question... The only series Dell is
going to offer an upgrade to is the X50/X50v series. so if you buy now
thinking you will upgrade make sure the model you choose is upgradeable.
their also has been no official announcement from Dell as to any new devices
specifically for WM5 yet, so your options (as of now, are buy the X50 now
and upgrade when it becomes available) orwait and buy the X50 with WM5 on
it.

I've been considering similar questions about when to buy. The thing I
thought about is that in the reviews of Windows Mobile 5 such as below, on
the screen captures it shows the use of "soft buttons" to access 2 context
sensitive menus at the bottom of the screen. So wouldn't it follow that any
new models would include 2 hardware buttons for that purpose? Thus even if
you have a PPC that can be upgraded it won't be quite as nice to use because
it won't have the 2 context sensitive buttons built in. Just a thought. Any
comments?
