It seems to me that the perfect version of Vista for gaming is "Business". It is pretty much the exact equivalent of XP Pro. It has RDP and advanced user/permissions management. And the OEM version is just $11 more than Pro OEM.

If it lacks "Games Explorer"- so what. Serious games don't need that.

It does lack Media Center but that blows for anything other than a dedicated HTPC with TV-only display. MC also probably runs a bunch of unwanted background services.

Is there any feature of Ultimate that is worth the extra money and bloat for a gaming setup?

I have vista business and you are able to install games explorer. it works in the same way as xp, it had 'windows components'

The functions that are in it and not the other versions are not related to games.
