Rainbow Six

Just FYI to all of you OFPers out there.

I wasn't much of a Ghost Recon fan, having OFP with so much more to offer,
so I never really looked at Rainbow Six. I mean, R6 is pretty much just GR,
except you're counter terrorists.

On a whim, I picked up the R6 Gold edition cheap, for $20, and I gotta tell
you, I love this freaking game! There's a lot more control to it than GR
has. No, it's not OFP, but damn if it isn't addicting.

I recommend it to anyone who wants to take a break from OFP but play
something else that is the same kind of "cool" as OFP.

Have you seen the PC Zone review? It got 87% (IIRC) but they said the

Only if they dont push it back again. I was waiting on Tuesday for it
but when I looked at Ubi's site later that evening, I realised why it
didnt show. O well, the bright side of the wait hopefully means less
bugs.

Excellent, well let's hope it's like that and not like the version PC Zone
had :)

Raven Shield's ok too. I fire it up occasionally but those games just
seem so claustrophobic after playing OFP for so long.

Yeah, I hear you. It's definitely not OFP. I'm just surprised I'm getting
as much out of R6 as I am. I'm really enjoying it.

Anybody know of some good mods for Raven Shield or Athena Sword? I've done
a little looking on the net, but other than some tweaks to the ragdoll file,
I haven't found much.

Good suggestions for R6 mods would be welcome.

R6 does something better than OFP, though. House-to-House combat.

I hope this is a part of OFP2. I'd like to be able to have some of these
hair fights inside a building, and then go and take part in a large beach
landing. OFP has always been weak when it comes to clearing houses and
such.

No doubt about that. A game that could combine the open country combined
arms aspects of OFP with the CQB aspects of the RS series would be the
dogs bollocks of PC gaming.

For R6 you need the NATO mod for R6. That's pretty much the only mod you
need for R6, though I think Lloyd Bailey did a skin mod for R6.

For Rogue Spear there are a lot more mods you can enjoy if you have Urban
Ops expansion installed.

Rogue Spear: Urban Ops was the most mod-friendly game I had ever seen until
OFP came out. You could even activate more than one mod at a time and set
their priorities, mixing up your available options in-game.

Joint Operations: Escalation is about as close as you can get, for now.

I've yet to be in any serious CQB in World War 2 Online... not to say it
doesn't happen, just hasn't happened to me, yet.

I'm playing Rainbow Six 3, Raven Shield and Athena Sword. It looks like the
mods you're pointing out are for the older editions of the game--the
original R6.

Any recommendations on mods for Raven Shield/Athena Sword?

Thanks,

C.

Oh, if you're talking about R6 3 you can pretty much hang it up.

Someone made a pistol mod that was well-received, but then farking UbiSoft
released a patch for the game that broke the mod!

Otherwise, R6 3 is so mod-unfriendly that nothing significant has been
released, at least, not that I know about.

I love that Spectre M4 subgun in Athena Sword. It's got the perfect sound
for ripping tangos a new one. It seems to point in a different direction
than the other guns, but for some reason that didn't adversely affect my
aim.

That's what I was afraid of. I didn't find much in my casual search of the
net.

Are the original R6 games worth playing? R6, Rogue Spear, Covert Ops, etc?
I'm really enjoying R6-3, but I'm wondering if the earlier game would be
worth the purchase.

Thanks,

C.

thanks for the tip on that Uzi. I have JO Escalation but just haven't
had the time lately to fire it up and play it :-(

Too many great games - not enough time to play them

Rogue Spear + Rogue Spear: Urban Operations (you might be able to find these
two and maybe more titles in some kind of Gold Pack or Action Pack or
something) is worth it, if you don't mind an older, non Unreal engine.

Might be better to play it on a slower system, though, as some of the
animations are CPU synched.

With Urban Ops, you'll be able to play tons of weapon and other mods.

U> Rogue Spear + Rogue Spear: Urban Operations

Not to forget Ghost Recon, which is more about the great outdoors, yet,
subpar to Flashpoint but still quite fun and challenging to play.

I actually like Ghost Recon 2 much better. Ghost Recon 1 has some serious
issues, like the "argh! you shot me and I can't shoot back, okay, now I'm
better and can shoot you in a second, argh! you shot me again and I can't
shoot back, okay, now I'm better and can shoot you in a second, argh! you
shot me and now I'm dead! You bastard!"

Ghost Recon 1 only became a good game if you bought Desert Siege and Island
Thunder expansions and then patched.

That's what it takes to have tangos that move around in teams, making your
Light Machineguns worth something.

And the farking invisible walls in GR1 drive me nuts!

GR2 is just so much better. I love GR2. It rocks on the Box!
