I just bought the Asus P5B.

My idle temp is 48*C and load using prime95 is 61*C using PC Probe.

I have Core Temp 0.95 running and it shows
34*C Idle and 47*C on load using prime95.

Question, is the Asus Probe II wrong? and should I rely on the Core Temp as the actual true CPU temp?

[sigh]

No, its not wrong. It measures the temp from a different sensor, thus the different reading. I would recommend skiping Core Temp, ignoring PCProbe and using TAT.

sweet. I just ran TAT.

and on idle it shows around 35-40*C while asus probe says 49.

thank god as I thought my cpu was overheating.

thank you!

So I take it that's a known problem that the P5B series boards have problems reading the correct temp?

No no, not a problem persay. All boards will show the same results given the same monitoring programs. Its just that the programs take the readings from two different sensors, located at two different locations on the actual CPU. One is actually in the the CPU, the other at the surface. They will alway report different temps.

That said, there are two different schools of opinion on Core Temp vs TAT. TAT is Intels program. Core Temp is a shareware program written by....some guy. There are reports of inconsistancies in both, but personally I tend to trust TAT more, as it is an actual tool used by Intel.

I have a Asus p5B deluxe wifi with a E6600 and i have used nothing but PcProbe idles at 33-35 load at 47-50 with prime on both cores? i find it hard to believe that the case or cooling i have can make a 13-15 difference? might grab one of those other temp readers and see what i get using them i might be able to keep my drink cold.
