My first custom rig I built Dec 05'

AMD Athlon 3500+ Clawhammer
2gb CORSAIR value RAM
80gb WD ide
eVGA 6800xt broke so i need a new one
asus a8n sli prem
500w psu im concerned about the rails amperage. there both <18amps

SO i want to upgrade to newer sockets and boards etc. I want to consider overlocking or some upgrades to match higher end computers. I play cs:s BF. my 3dmark05 scores wore like <5k

Sorry to hear your 6800XT broke. But then again, it was the whimpy version of the 6800 series.

As an option, you can salvage that system for a little longer.

CPU: A64 4200 X2 - $135
Video Card: Either the Sapphire X1950Pro or X1950XT

Now, if you can hold off for another few weeks when the HD2900XT comes out, that should cause prices to drop some.

If you do not plan to wait, then I have a few questions. What model PSU do you have? What is your budget? Do you plan on reusing any components from your current system?

What monitor do you have or plan on getting? Do you want VISTA or are you going to wait?

The psu was from CompUSA. It didnt look like a big brand name. This is my "plan". i want to get a new vid, a psu, and overclock to keep the system for a year atleast, or till years end. Id like no more than $300-$400. I have a Samsung 19". Im going to wait for to get Vista.

I realize the psu 12v rail has only 18amp but i though with the low end equipment i have i dont need much. What do you think?
