I wanted to post this since I've seen a lot of people get this error message.
The problem:
Basically when you try to open a folder with video files (AVI, MPG) you get this windows error "ActiveMovie: explorer.exe could not write to memory at xxxxxx".
The fix:
Search for pvmjpg21.dll (this is a PCI MPEG compressor by Pinnacle or Pegasus)...delete the file from the C:\windows\.... directory....
If you can't find the file search using wildcard pvm*21.dll and also make sure you have the show hidden/system files option turned on.
I did this and did not have any adverse side effects in Pinnacle Studio 9.
