The safely remove hardware icon no longer shows up in the notification area.

Review of the custom notification area under task bar finds it is listed as
a past item. Toggling from hide to show all the time does not seem to make a
difference.

USB plug and play devices such as various memory sticks or a 3 1/2" floppy
drive do not make the icon appear. In the past when the icon was present,
these same devices definitly would show as installed hardware.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Delete all the USB hosts in the Device Manager and restart Windows.
Also delete the hidden items: "Device Manager Does Not Display Devices
That Are Not Connected to the Windows XP-Based Computer"
