What is a good remote (Sony 3100 or Harmony 659) to replace the Sci
Atlanta 8000HD cable box PVR remote. I need to control Sony TV and
sound system. The special buttons (list, Guide, A, B and C etc) need
to be mapped to the new remote

Not exactly what you're looking for, but I've had good results using a Sony
3000 with my Motorola DCT-6200. Between the standard buttons & the custom
labels, all the features of the cable box remote can be covered.

I use this remote to control my SA8000HD, Samsung DLP, plus Toshiba DVD,
RCA VCR, Pioneer Home Theatre Receiver, and Zenith OTA HD Receiver:

I have the Harmony, and it works "well" but it's slow to program and slow to
change channels. You can tweak almost anything, and to be fair, I have not
done this to speed up channel changing. I'm not sure I like having to
connect to the web to program the unit, but it's worked fine. I am
controlling the TV, Stereo receiver, Satellite receiver, DVD, VHS and
Playstation. It's not hard to program, but will take a bit of time to learn
it.

I got one of those as a gift and have never set it up. I have the same Moto
box you do, but the dual tuner model.
