Windows 7 upgrade from 32 bit to 64 bit

I have Win 7 ultimate version and origianlly installed 32 bit. Now I want to install the 64 bit version which I have the disk, I just need to understand the process - is it a complete new install or can I do an upgrade that does not wipe my filesystems and cause me to have to reinstall my programs???

  1. Welcome wysongb!

You are going to need to do a complete new install.
  2. You will have to format C: & re install to change from 32bit to 64bit

(If second drive or partition D: exists no need to format )

Not worth bothering unless you need more than 3.5GB of RAM

  3. Reinstall - yes.
    Reformat - no.
