I have 65 processes running now w/ 5% CPU useage on each core. Here is what I would do....
Go to reg edit you know START\RUN regedit the enter then go to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

see if anything is running there that can be deleted

then go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

and see whats running there. I had one a while ago called SERVER.EXE and yes it was a VIRII.

You can look at your running services in the service admin control snapin and see what happens when you turn things off by stopping them.

Run SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY (update it) and see if it finds a boogy man.

ladic, you can control startup (and delayed) items with winpatrol by BillP studios:

http://www.winpatrol.com/

The log makes it easy to identify which ones are necessary and which aren't.

It also adds an extra layer of security by monitoring resident.

It is also very light on resources.
