This last weekend my 60" Sony GWII LCD projection set started turning off
every 5 minutes, with a flashing LED on the front panel. I didn't try to
figure out what the LED was trying to tell me. I just got out the User's
Manual and followed the directions to replace the XL-2000U lamp. The
replacement went smoothly since I taped the Allen wrench bag to the lamp
door under the right hand cover when the TV was installed in Jan 2003, so
didn't have to hunt it down. Lamp brightness didn't dim very much prior to
the failure, and I calculate I received about 4000 hours of trouble-free
performance from the original lamp. This seems kind of short, but what can
you do? I guess I'm lucky I had just bought a replacement lamp 2 months
before. Of course I immediately placed an order for another lamp.

When you get the new lamp, put it in and use it for the 90 day warranty
period to make sure that it is good. If it is bad you don't want to
discover that 2 years from now when the distributor won't honor any warranty
on it.

Surely you mean three sets of LED arrays. As bright as modern LEDs are I
find it hard to believe that three are sufficient to illuminate a 60"
screen.

The post about the 3 LED's replacing one lamp sounds as though it might be a
confusion over Sony's use of three LCD panels, instead of one, in their LCD
RP HDTV's. One lamp, though.
