Seriously guys, I don’t what to start another doomsday scenario thread …
I’m sick of them, and what am I trying to say is that after the disappointment that R600 is likely to be (from what we’ve seen by now), it’s clear to me that ATI will not recover very soon and the only chance for AMD to remain at the top of their game is their CPU business and to be more concrete K10 core …
I want to be clear on one thing, I don’t think that AMD will disappear or die, but I really want them to be a powerful company that can fight for supremacy and leadership, and because it’s the only way they can remain in a striking distance of Intel, and we (the consumers) need this competition.
There is no point in having only one big and powerful company and the other just for show. Let’s face it, for many years AMD was just for show, they never were able to influence the competition or the industry, they were never a big player.
In the last years there were on a position to really make a difference and influence the market and the competition with a great portfolio of very competitive products and we all saw the results ... (I don’t have to remained you all how much a mediocre processor was 2-3 years ago).
This is really the question… can AMD remain a credible player if K10 fails???
I really hope we won’t have to find out, but after the R600 failure I have to wonder …
Hopefully AMD did not make the same mistakes as ATI.

Doomsday scenario's for AMD are popping up every day it seems. Believe it or not, this mess with the R600 actually brings tears to my eyes. I used ATI cards for several years, and it pains me to see them in this state.
Reading some of the statements by AMD Senior Reps, they feel sure they will turn things around, though they may be changing the direction of their business. They may focus more on the business side integrated graphics/CPU and try to gain market share on the desktops of cube dwellers.
This is just the impression I got from reading 4 or 5 interviews with AMD people. If they change to this direction then, I wouldn't be expecting bleeding edge processors to beat Intel.....they would not need to with the new strategy All they have to do is offer competitive prices on mid to low end machines.

Same here ... I am sad that 2900 XTX is a failure also, but as long as their other stuff (low-end and middle-end) remains competitive than maybe it's not a lost cause after all ...
Exactly my point ... it's so hard to believe that from all the samples that AMD has send to it's partners not even one has leaked ... at least a little.
Either K10 is the best held secret since project Manhattan , either isn’t not really so great after all ... all this secresy makes no sense to me.
Don't get your pocket protector all bent out of shape. AMD has a good solid 14-18 monthes left in them as long as K10 competes with the top of Conroe. I am sure they will milk the bottom while bleeding out slowly to a demise that will involve being bought out and chopped up. Look at this as a good thing. Soon you will be able to buy AMD case fans, led lights, and heat sinks for Intel processors. Hell, if G.E. buys them out you might even be able to get an AMD waffle maker or electric tooth brush. Sweeet.
So relax. have a big cup of Yerba-mate and watch some Bill Nye the Science Guy reruns on public access. Its going to be O.K.
AMD is a motorcycle driving towards some canyon. AMD is loaded with bricks (which symbolize the money AMD spends. More money spent = more bricks). Brakes wont work.
AMDs side of the canyon is 2007, on the other side is 2008/2009.
A thin rope connects the two sides of the canyon.
AMD needs to perfectly hit the rope and drop as many bricks as possible before that happens, only then will AMD able to cross the canyon.
The rope is the K8L launch (or better said the actual product behind it)
not everyone buys gpu's based on test data - there are alot of die hard ati people that will buying a amd hd 2600xt (me) to test it and see how it compares.
from 2004-2006 all you heard was amd this amd that - well intel did not go out buisness. amd market share is still about where its always been - 20%.

Major is right with the bonds just floated AMD has got cash until till mid 2008. Thats a long way out look back 14 months ago AMD was kicking the sh*t out of Intel and riding high. And then came Conroe and the party was over maybe Barcelona is good and just under tighter security than the gold at Fort Knox.
Technically AMD has NEVER been on top....their market share has never been higher than 14% or so. Even when they had the best product they didn't even come close to touching Intel's 80% market share.....nor will they ever for the forseeable future....Its nice that the fanbois like the AMD chips, but keep things in perspective guys. AMD is little fish.
