I've upgraded to a Intel E6400 system recently. Overall the computer runs great. However, the compression program I like, 7-Zip, totally sucks on it. The average decompression speed is 3300Kbps. My old P4 3.06GHz averaged 13-18Mbps.

I'm using the latest version of 7-Zip and have the newest chipset drivers (Asus P4NSLI...NForce 570 Chipset). Running 2 Gigs OCZ PC5400 XTC Gold Ram.

Any suggestions as to why this program runs so slow?

PS - I haven't tried another compression program yet...will try that tonight.

Thanks.

Update: I adjusted the RAM timings to 4, 4, 4, 12. They were at 5, 5, 5, 12. This has increased the speed to about 5500Kbps. Still way below normal.

I'm running OCZ Dual Channel XTC 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Gamer Memory (2 x 1024MB). So it's not bad RAM speed wise.

I find it very odd that 7-ZIP runs so slow especially since it supports multi-threading.

Suggestions?

Thanks.
