I am building a new PC but haven't decided between Intel or AMD. I have everything except the chip and the mobo. Can some one give me advice on what to get. I am unfamiliar with the intel motherboards and currently have an AMD Athlon XP. I am looking at an AMD X2 4800 with a Gigabyte Mobo but have heard that the Core Duo can do better.

Really depends on your budget. Right now, the X2s have the best price/performance ratio. But, if you're thinking about overclocking, then Core 2 Duo's are for you. Get a E6320 or E6420 and OC it to 3.0 Ghz...with a DS3 ($100 on newegg) and be happy :)

Or you can get an x2 3600 and OC it to 3 Ghz so you can upgrade to Barcelona when it gets released.

I have never overclocked before and if I did it it would be with the stock cooler and just a little bit. Looking to spend no more than 140 for the processor and around 100 for the mobo

I would suggest spending $30 for the CPU and getting an E6320, OC it to 2.4-2.8 ghz, and be happy. But if you're not into OCing, then just get an X2 5200 or 5600.
