Looking to get the most bang for the buck. Need to find a AM2 motherboard to pair with an X2 3600. Any ideas?????? Thanks

I had an ECS RS485M that did decent. I had it at 250Mhz on an A64 3000+ (2.25Ghz) but was then limited by cooling. It probably could have gone higher. GREAT board for the price ($50)

Biostar Tforce 550 is reputed to have good ability. IIRC, logainofhades got his 3600 to 2.8 with ease on it.

That board looks AWESOME! I wish I would have seen that when I was looking for another board.

another vote for the nF-M2 nView.
It's being replaced by the new AN-M2HD when nVidia gets it's new IGP chipset out

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll go with the Abit NF-M2 nView.

good site too

Er... that isn't the NF-M2 nView board. The one you linked to is a cheaper version, the NF-M2S, with the 6100/405 or 410 chipset.

I would agree the NF-M2 is probably a good board but I thought the latest news is saying that the Biostar TA690G board was a better overclocker? Is that not the case?

I know they were saying the 690G IGP was slightly better than the 6150/430 in terms of graphics performance but I also thought I read where folks liked the OC ability of the board.

Ahh, didn't notice, my bad.

That Biostar board looks even better. I'll definitely be building a PC with that.

here's a review on the Biostar TA690G on VR-Zone

"My only gripe about the board: despite having all the tweaking options available in the BIOS, the board can barely overclock. Even after I plop in a better cooler like the Scythe Mine with a 120mm fan, the board still refuses to budge even 5Mhz off stock HTT. Honestly speaking, I wouldn't expect this board to fare too well in overclocking as it's not the main purpose the board's designed for in the first place.."

here's another review of the Biostar TA690G on Beginner's PC

"Unfortunately the Biostar TA690G AM2 motherboard didn't get very far, it maxed out on us with a top speed of 223 MHz. This is more likely due to the processor reaching its maximum speed than the motherboard maxing out however. To be fair, the TA690G AM2 motherboard isn't exactly built to be a massive overclocking platform either."

This Sapphire Board is supposed to be a good OCer (for uATX). It uses the new 690G chipset.
The color looks interesting, but its not glow-in-the-dark or UV. Its out of stock at the Egg right now, ETA is set for this weekend.

Virtual-Hideout did a REVIEW on the Sapphire 690G board.
This is their OC on a 3500
http://www.virtual-hideout.net/reviews/Sapphire_Pure_AM2RS690MHD/images/cpuz%20CPU%20OC.JPG
An OC of nearly 400mhz looks pretty good for a micro ATX mobo.

u mean 235 HTT from a 200 HTT stock? The BIOS can set the HTT from 200-400 doesn't mean the board can goes that high AND stay stable with the clock speed, unless it's modded and paired with Liquid Nitrogen

"This motherboard is not intended to be a serious overclocker, but instead to be an asset to the digital home environment."

here's a review on the Sapphire 690G on HardwareZone

"In our overclocking tests, we managed to push a maximum stable overclock of 240MHz FSB using a 4x (800MHz) LDT multiplier. "

Yeah. Stock settings are 200mhz x 11 = 2.2ghz

yes sir, that means its a 200 HTT stock + another 35 HTT overclock = 235 HTT

NOT a 200 HTT stock + another 200 HTT overclock = 400 HTT

Yikes. I guess I was way off base there then. Glad I qualified. I had thought I read that it was a decent OC'er but I must have latched on to the statement about "having all the tweaking options available" and then went blind immediately or something. I have looked at so many boards and read so many reviews lately I can't keep them straight anymore. Thanks for the heads-up.

Not sure about that board specifically but I have sort of been waiting for the Nvidia chipset boards myself. The two I am interested in are the Abit AN-M2 and the Abit AN-M2HD. Abit at CeBIT 2007 (scroll down the page)

Problem is there has been zero reliable word as to when these MCP68 (7050-630a) boards will be available. There was a rumor that they would be released on or near April 19th, but alas.... You might be waiting awhile.

If they aren't released this weekend I am buying this Sapphire 690G board.

Sorry, must've misunderstood, I meant its going from 2.2ghz to 2.59 (nearly 400mhz!)
C'mon my math isn't THAT bad.

Foxconn has a new 690G mobo out now. Its got the "Tiger One" OC utility. Anyone have info on this board?

Its going for $68 on New Egg.

I've read that the biostar ta690g board comes with a bracket for S/Pdif optical output? does anyone know if this is true?

I will not be getting a HDCP TV for some time; but I can get by with S-video to the projector and optical to my 5.1 amp.
I'll not be overclocking this one.
