I've been checking out these forums for a few days, and I think I've got a a handle on what I want. But I could always use some advice. I'm buying most of the stuff at TigerDirect, but if anyone knows any other sites like TigerDirect, I'd love to hear about it (not NewEgg though, as it caters to US only - too bad).

I've already got some components from my current build which I will transfer to the new rig (Case, Hard Drives, CD/DVD drives, network card, 430W PSU, etc.).

Anyway here are the components I would like to get to round out the system. I have set myself a $1000 maximum (actually, my wife had a lot to do with it!):

MOBO
Gigabyte 965P DS-3: I'm getting this at a local shop here for $139 CDN. Cheapest I could find. TigerDirect doesn't carry it, for some reason I can't fathom.

CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 Dual Core Processor LGA775 1.8GHZ 800FSB 2MB Retail from NCIX.com at $149.50

VIDEO CARD
This is the hard part. I want to go with the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS Superclocked / 320MB GDDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card, but I'm not sure if its worth it, at a whopping $398.99 from TigerDirect. I'm tempted to go with a Radeon X1950 Pro card until DX10 reaches its potential. Your advice here would be helpful.

RAM
OCZ Platinum Revision-2 2048MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 x 1024MB) from TigerDirect for $175 (after rebate).

Cooling Product
Thermaltake / Ruby Orb / Socket 775/754/939/940/AM2 / Aluminum Core/Fins / CPU Cooler for $46.99 from TigerDirect.

I think this is a decent system, but I am very open to suggestion.

if u want u can go for the E4300 and save 100 bucks. the stock heat sink will handle a 3Ghz overclock, if over clocking is on your mind. if you want an after market cooler on the cheap i would highly recommend the typhoon for 60 more buck which will take your total to 1,090.06 bucks CAD

Splendid
You can get my ram for $110 cad + taxes new. If you do go 650i/680i, get cheap ram & o/c the cpu. Exactly my plans for the c2d price drops. You can save serious money there.

I 2nd 8600GT which is the midrange dx10 card. XFX o/c's the cards at the factory. It's somewhat faster than the regular.

Yep, ncix.com has weekly sales & ships to CA/US. It's based out of BC. DirectCanada.com is a sister site. A bit cheaper on some parts. TD is kinda expensive except for their sales. Their rebates do work, but take a long while.
