Ubuntu Live CD issue

My laptop's hard disk drive just crashed. In order for me to use the same unit for surfing, I tried running Ubuntu's live CD. It's cool because I can access the internet automatically. The only problem is that I could not seem to get the right setting for the video display. I tried individually setting the available options upon boot up but I still got the same result. Am I missing something?

Try:

System -> Preferences -> screen resolution

Once you are at the Gnome desktop. This will allow you to set the res.
