I know, I know, it's a 945 chipset. All I am trying to do is overclock my e4300 from 1.8 to 2.4. This is my media server:

Intel E4300
Gigabyte P945-S3 rev. 1.0 (I believe)
2 x 512 DDR2 667 Generic Ram
Nvidia 6200LE (just needed the video out)
1 x 100GB SATA Seagate HD (OS only)
2 x 320GB SATA Seagate HD

The problem, is that I have all kinds of issues when I over clock my e4300 to 2.4 w/ what appears to be my SATA controller. Suddenly, things that I download, can't be installed and I end up getting an occassional Java Exception Error and crashes the Media Program I use. Also, at 2.4ghz, occassionally it won't boot from the OS HD. Any ideas?

I tried upping the voltages a bit, but that didn't help. I also under clocked the ram to 533 (we all know generic ram is generally overclocked to get to the rated speeds) and still nothing. I also tried setting the PCI-E speed to 100 and 110 mhz. Still no luck. I haven't noticed any problems when running at stock 1.8ghz.

Have you tried running a cpu tester like burnin test from http://passmark.com/. My brother successfully runs his e4300 to around 2.4 with no problems, but his memory is faster than yours, 800 I believe. My guess is that your memory is the problem, but you need to first eliminate the fact that the processor may not be able to overclock first.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will have to try passmark (haven't used that). I am right now running Memtest on it to see if I get any errors (I had it on hand, so I decided to try that first). I guess I could just be that unlucky. Even running at 250mhz FSB didn't help much.

You were right. Bad stick of Ram. I had run memtest with no problems, but the memory check program in BurnInTest failed. So I pulled one of the sticks, and it still failed and so far with the other stick it is running like a champ. Guess I have to contact mwave for a new stick o' ram.

Thank you!
