I have a 8800gts evga card and wonder if I could use a dvi->component cable to hook my tv up. Or can I use only component->component?

That sounds like something you'd just to have to try and see, but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Still, why would you want to? You'd lose quality in the process by going from digital to analog.
