as topic~ discuss.... looks kinda =/
Expected. The Higher clocks will of course bring more performance. I see this card selling for 50-70$ more than the 8800GTX just for the higher clocks.
Simply if you got the money to blow to say "i have SLI'ed 8800's ULTRAs"
then by all means do so. The rest of use will use the Plain ole 8800GTX/GTS and OC those for the price OF NOTHING.
As to be expected, performance usually doent move that much with ram clocks near as much as with chips. And the overall upgrade you see here is mostly ram. Doesnt surprise me, nor impress for a "Ultra" model. I spose some people will buy one tho 8O
Haha, the Ultra is a waste of money.
Anyway can overclock their GTX to 612Mhz without a single problem.
they are making you pay extra money for 5-15 more fps on some games?
ROFL 8)
guess im the only 1 who finds that pretty good? o.O
graphic cards always go through a phase of everything 1upping the other by a few frame rates, 5-15fps differance is pretty much what i expected.
and no doubt it will push 8800GTX prices down abit, so no worrys...
personally ill just overclock my 8800GTX but still... Ultra looks like a logical "1up" on the GTX to me.
what a complete waste of space, they aren't Ultra benchmarks, they're "we overclocked a GTX to what we think the Ultra will be at"
granted, if the specs being bandied about for Ultra are correct then Ultra itself is a complete waste of space anyway, but even so, must have been a slow day in the office for these guys to waste their time and webhosting on such tripe
Phhhfff... I've been running two "8800 Ultra's" for 5 months now. Any self-respecting 8800 GTX can OC to Ultra levels or higher.
This sku is just a marketing ploy to put G80 even further ahead of R600 when it's released.
The only advantage of an Ultra are the OC'ed shaders. btw, is there any way to manually OC shaders yet (apart from flashing)?

the card is projected to be $999 at release, basically the card is a status symbol
what a waste of money, just buy a gtx and OC it
and in case you are wondering, they did OC the shaders
I OC my 320MB GTS to 640MHz
You can't go wrong for $300.
Sheesh, that card is the biggest waste of $999 that I've seen in quite a while. I feel a great amount of pity for anyone stupid enough to buy that card, but I'm sure some of the filthy rich will pick it up.
Really if you think about it, it's almost exactly like the GF7800Ultra/GTX-512.
Buy two GF8800GTS-640s and put them in SLi and it should stomp a single GF8800Ultra for the same price.
I'd say forget the GF8800Ultra stick with whichever GF8800 you have (or if you don't, then go out and buy the GTS-320 right now) and then put the rest of the money in the bank, earn interest, take money out, spend interest on ice cream cone, and then buy the refreshed 65nm part when it arrives instead of the Ultra.
Better card plus ice cream; can't go wrong with that !! MMMmmm mmmMMM !!!
"Yawn"

QFT!
Wait a minute, nvidia expects people to pay $1k for that? No way are they going to get anyone with a half a brain to do that. And will it have a better cooler? I can definitely forsee heat issues too.
IMO, people are far better off building a chiller and a custom case for it then wasting money on 8800ultra, but that's me. I would go for an antec p190 with a single gtx and oc that, so you have an awesome case with plenty of expansion room **cough cough**internal chiller**/cough cough**, I would be far happier with my chip and cpu at -30c oc'd to the max then one powerful card, of course, plenty of people build their own custom cases for this purpose, but the p190 comes with a dual psu setup which is one reason why I mentioned it.
I should be all set to beat it then.
I think NV is smokin' something too, $1k??!! 8O For a lousy overclocked 8800GTX?? WTF!
Exactly what I'm thinking, at least the r600xtx is 65nm for lower power consumption AND it should perform very well in dx10. Quite frankly, I think that if you simply oc'd the shader clock from 750mhz to a more comparable 1ghz to the least, or the 1.35ghz/1.55ghz the gtx/ultra have, the r600 would be pwning in both dx9 and dx10, gonna check that out at xs once people start ocing the hell out of the card when crysis comes out

I expect the street prices to be lower.
The 8800 Ultra is just a (marketing) joke.
Other than clocks, there is nothing new. Could it be that nVIDIA doesn't need anything more to hold the performance crown? :?
I'm still waiting to see the R600 official performance numbers. No more FUD.
IF it performs like we have seen, then AMD is facing a VERY rough future.
We'll wait and see.

I heard the street prices for you were cheap too.
But they won't be by that much though, at the lowest I'm assuming $900, I mean bfg's oc waterblock gtx already costs over $900 already. And this expensive heater better come with better cooling than the stock gtx, otherwise I don't see anyone beyond the "I have $12k to spend because I have too much money so I'll just buy whatever costs the most" n00bs buying it

danggggggg. Burrrrrrrn. Wherre have you been lately? Making fun of people I don't know is never even half as fun without you and the others around

I think so, but the whole point about it will be what test gets you the crown? Top 3Dmk06 score?
Like before both AMD and nV will claim to have the #1 top card based on XYZ benchmark that shows them favourably.
I think it's guaranteed that both will be king in their own mind/PR, the question is what the web concensus becomes.
It's possible nvidia might pull an intel and show the places where it completely dominates, and then hide the other places where its compeitors do almost as good and try to prove to the public you should pay their price for the card as "the world's best processor has arrived", err, that was k5
How about "the world's most expensive gfx card has arrived!!!"

Depends on what.
as far as i know there are factory overclocked 8800gtxs from xfx and evga...how do they fare against 8800ultra ??? any idea ???
Cores are higher memory is the only thing slower, but they are the same memory chips, they're just over volted in the Ultra (you can volt mod the GTXs to match).
Call me what you wish, but I'm not the only one of this opinion, if you want someone to flame, go bother other people. Talk to verndewd or jumpingjack about this and they'll agree that we have yet to see what the r600 can fully do, and also intel is trying to destroy amd. When amd was in the lead, they just raised prices and tried to capitalize that way, intel on the other hand, is forcing amd to sell their products at rates they know they can't and is making money at the same time, which is what makes it unfair.
Call me crazy, but I think the 8800ultra is a big waste of time, I'd take two stock 8800gtxs instead and mod them myself
| Quote : Its called competition, wtf do you think intel is supposed to do when ATI clearly kicked their a$$ for so long |
:?:
Well obvious.... they're bitter because of their Intel Extreme days.
Me thinks someone lost focus in their rant.
In my opinion this cards a total waste of time.
All that extra mula for what, an extra 4fps in 2142, an extra 2 fps in Call of Juarez.
Unless theres a 15-20 or so fps difference, a new cards really not worth buying.
Saving money and waiting for the DX10.1 cards whenever they are released makes far more sense.
Ahhhh.... good ol' marketing practice.
