Whats the difference between these two ports..
does it matter what kind of monitor yo use it with..

DVI is digital but your monitor has to support it with that type of connector. There are adapters though. But it really depends on the LCD screen whether you would notice the difference in quality. Thus if you notice the back of a low end ($170) LCD you'll find that it likely only has a single VGA port. DVI is much more common on video cards now and VGA is starting to go away. High end video cards and screens will be DVI only.
