Hey,

I'm playin OFP Res since a long time and I have damn probs with my
machine:
Tyan Tiger 760MP with Dual AthlonXP 1900+
Soundblaster Audigy (had a Nightingale Pro6+ before)
512MB

W2k and WXPPro SP2

Short after starting a mission when the first sound effects like
gunfire or explosions or loud engine-sound are coming up, then the game
hangs for 5-10 seconds. sometimes it works then fine but when another
loud sound occurs (spoken orders i.e.) it hangs again, sometimes I can
play then but sometimes it is jumping from one playable second to
another, broken by big lags. (understand? I'm german ;)

Mostly on missions with many and/or loud sounds this occurs?

What is this?
I've changed the soundcard to an Audigy Player, hoping the best of
soundcards will solve it but nothing.
I've changed the OS, but it is the same!

What solves my prob?

Greets, Mike!

Try right-clicking on your C drive. Choose Properties, and then do a disk
clean up.

I did this recently, and it helped. A lot.

Are you using a pirated copy? Do you know about FADE?

Make sure you're using the right sound driver. Believe it or not, the less
fancy (Well, non pro-audio) soundcard you use, the better for compatibility.
I can't even get Flashpoint to run when using my fancy S/C, but it works
fine with my 2bit SoundMax mobo jobbie.. Experiment.

Oh, and fade only affects (Badly) cracked exes in some of the first
versions. When I lost my manual and entered a fake key on reinstalling a
couple of years ago, it was fine. Of course, now it's about 25pence to buy,
so I'm "legit" again. Codemasters kindly refused to provide a new key,
unless I sent them the original disc/packaging through the post. Well worth
it.

I can scan BOTH my original ofp CD's in (Orig and GOTY) if any pitbulls come
sniffing, btw, so kindly don't start the fascism with me.

If this is a problem that occurred with your old soundcard installed and
which was not improved by changing your soundcard (if I'm reading you
correctly) then I guess it's not a sound issue.

Maybe you need more RAM? I used to find OFP a bit choppy with only 512Mb.

Or maybe he is using an ECP type mod, so that heavy scripting is occuring in
sync with the sound effect?

Hey guys!

No, nothing like that!

I'm playing on original versions (I have 2 origs OFP and one orig
Resistance, its cheap already).
I'm playing with a Creative Audigy Player.
I have the same probs on W2k and on WXP, the last one I've installed
some weeks ago, where my old soundcard was never installed on.
I have 512MB, I think it should fit.
But I have a lot of addons in my ...\res\addons-dir, perhaps then the
memory is overloaded?

the prob occurs often while loud or new sounds short after starting,
what could it logically be?

Maybe it is the mainboard, maybe it is my dual-proz configuration. Its
a pitty, that really less games are supporting multithreading, it could
be used really efficient!

I am running Ver 1.91, for questions...

Greets, Mike

Try defragging your hard drives, and creating a contiguous swap file /
contiguous page file / contiguous virtual memory. (Search for any of those
terms on Google.) This will decrease the amount of time it takes for your
system to load new stuff into memory. Try to get your contiguous swap file
towards the beginning of the hard drive in question. Also try to get all
..pbo files towards the beginning of your hard drive. (Some defragging
utilities allow you to specify where certain file types will be placed on
the drive.)

See if that helps.

is your sound acceleration turned on within OFP?
