People on this forum are debating on performance differences between HDD configurations such as 2x320GB seagates in RAID-0 , or a 150GB Raptor.

For example -
- 2 x 320GB on Newegg would be roughly $160
- 1 150GB raptor would be roughly $185ish or so depending where you get it

Now the question in my mind is, what about 4 x 80GB? It seems a little risky but I honestly wouldn't be too worried about failure as my important stuff will be saved on externals. But I would worry about trying to find out which one failed =x

Regardless of HDD brand, buying a configuration of 4 hard drives + shipping would cost roughly $200. But needless to say, thats just about exactly the same price as two 37 gig Raptors.

What would be the best for me? I don't care about space much, as I have multiple external Hard Drives.
I'll be using it for web browing, encoding/decoding, zipping/unzipping, and games. A game like Everquest (MMO) for instance, and whichever new games are coming out in the future (going to be a gaming computer)

Also, my budget is no more than $200 for a drive, or multiple drives. Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

i would get the raptor because in raid if one drive fails the whole array is gone. that is of course unless ur not using the raid for ur operating system. my configuration consists of a 37 gig raptor for the operating system and a couple of 160 gb western digitals for programs and files in raid 0. im saving up some money for a 320 gb to run raid 5.

raptor is faster for small files and loading apps, raid is faster for copying large files.
