Have done some searching and it seems as if I can do this but I want to make sure B-4 I give it a go.
I have XP MC'05 that I bought in January. I just got my "free" upgrade copy of Vista. Can I leave XP on one drive and install Vista on another w/out losing my XP. I just don't want to go Vista all the way yet due to compatibility issues with drivers, games and other stuff. Will installing and activating Vista deactivate XP?

You can, but it violates the EULA. It won't deactivate XP.

Good luck.

Thanx. That's what I was wondering as well. I think maybe I'll just wait to install.
