XBox 360 VGA-Hdmi with Computer Monitor

I bought an Xbox 360 and a hdmi to vga comverter to use it with my monitors second input. When the Xbox turns on, the vga shows nothing but im sure its connected properly. what could the problem be

assuming that the "conversion box" works perfectly....

did you forget to change the monitors input to the second source?
is the monitor compatible? (ie i know ps3 requries hdcp capability)
this is a normal 60hz monitor not any special 120hz model i assume?
