So why in the sli vga charts do the 8800gts 320's score higher then the 640's in sli? And will these benchmarks remain accurate for future games? I'm contemplating buying 2 320's instead of 2 640's but i dont want to regret that in a year.

What Charts? I don't even see the GST model listed in Tom's charts, just the GTS.

Every article I have seen this discusses this says that the GST is not good for SLI. I could envision the 320mb model have in infitecimal lead when less than 320mb of memory is needed because less memory needs to cycle. In reality, this should always be well under a single frame difference.

Once you go over 320mb, the GST will begin to drop well well behind.
It's not likely you will even need the SLI power when using less then 320mb and hence the SLI will have no point.

If you look at the benchmarks for say oblivion at 1600x1200 the gtx gets 32.5fps whereas 2 320's for the same price get 43.9fps

i am having the issue of deciding whether or not to buy a single 8800 gtx or buying 2 320mb 8800 gts because they outperform the single 8800 gtx but there is always the possibility of upgrading to 2 8800gtxs when i get the money

o they are? It makes sense, just thought they'd put "oc" in there with the name in the charts. So I'm an evga loyalist, and if i decided to go with the 320's id get the KO ACS3. Im just hopeing i wont regret going with those instead of GTX in a year, but going sli with the GTX is way expensive.

my mistake i forgot to look above the 640 in the charts. In this chart what im talking about still applies though, because the 320's only get 1 fps lower then the 640. Im wondering if it has to do with memory cycling like zenmaster was saying

I'm of the opinion that spending the same amount of money on a single to get almost the same performance as 2 cards is worth it for the ability to buy a second one later.

Another thing to consider is waiting for AMD's R600 cards to come out to compare to and also hopefully trigger some price drops.

yea this is true judging by the charts im pretty sure you would be fine with the 320 but you could always buy the 640mb cards that are oced which would prob run faster than the 320mb oced cards...it also depends on what resolution you would be running at.... i have a 1680 x 1050 which is right around the 1600 x 1200 resolution so they would serve me well

thats true but the 8800 gtx slied would bottleneck most cpus so i dont think it would be worth buying 2 8800gtxs if your not running a high resolution

Im runnin a fx-60 with 4mb corsair xms ddr-400. So Im thinking the gtx's would bottleneck that for sure. so now what would be nice is a comparison between the acs3 320 and 640 in sli.

That's why I recommended buying ONE gtx now and buying another one later (i.e. a year or so down the road), when you would probably be upgrading your CPU anyways.
