I recently purchased a Zektor Component Video switch, together with a remote
control, an RCA Multifunction, in order to feed my Sony Wega HDTV monitor
with 4 different inputs ( HDTV OTA tuner, DVD, Tivo and VCR) using component
cables. (The Sony has only 2 component inputs. One set is feeding just the
Comcast cable).
I am extremely pleased with the Zektor switch as it does exactly what I want
it to, except with one irritating problem.
I programmed the RCA remote (#RCU300TMS) , in accordance with suggestions in
the manual, as a Jerrold Cable box. I now find that when I wish to use
either the RCA remote, or the remote supplied with my Comcast Motorola cable
box, #HCM(?)5100 to change either the switch or the channel on the cable
box, both the remotes work identically as each other. For instance, with
both devices switched on, if I change the channel on the cable box with the
cable remote, it also switches the Zektor at the same moment. If I change
the Zektor switch using the RCA remote, it also changes the channels on the
cable box in the same manner This is driving me dotty especially when they
get out of phase with one another so that when one is switched off the other
turns on!.
I have read both instruction manuals and have tried reprogramming both the
cable and the Zektor remotes, using all the combinations shown in the Zektor
manual but am unable to find anyway in which they will both work
independently of each other. It is as if the code in either the Zektor
machine or the cable box should be changed and the matching remotes also
reprogrammed accordingly, so that they do not interfere with each other. A
call to Comcast floored the tech rep and I have yet to make contact with the
Zektor tech reps.
Can anyone please suggest a way I can fix this problem so that the cable box
remote works just the cable box and the Zektor's remote works just the
Zektor?

The problem isn't the remotes, the problem is the components themselves.
They are responding to the same infrared codes. This usually doesn't
happen between components from different manufacturers, but it can.
It's possible that both the cable box and the Zektor unit are actually
made by the same third party. In any event, unless one of the two gives
you a choice for the codes that it uses (and I've never seen that
feature in anything other than a VCR), your only solution is to replace
one of the units with some other brand.

I'm not technical but that is rather what I thought the problem might be.
I had hoped that I might have got over the problem by fiddling with the
remotes.
Thank you for your reply.

Geoff,
I have pretty much the same setup as you.
The Zektor uses the Jerrold codes as default, which are the same as the
Comcast box.
Yup, that'll drive ya crazy.
See pages 6 + 7 of the manual. I programmed my Zektor switcher as a Yamaha
VCR.
It all works fine now.

OK. I appear to have fixed the problem. Thanks to all who replied.

Are you going to tell us how you fixed the problem?
